There are books that arrive quietly and yet alter the inner landscape of the reader forever. Hijr Nama by Zeeshan Ameer Saleemi is one such work. As a Japanese scholar working for decades on cross cultural poetic structures and emotional universality, I had read various traditions but rarely encountered an Urdu ghazal collection that travels so effortlessly across languages cultures and hearts.
